The Wolf

.

That day, we were in the car.
As always, she was irritated.
She was getting agitated, arguing, and complaining.
And as always, I was ignoring her.

For part of the drive, we entered an area outside the city.
The road was dark.
And everywhere I looked, there was nothing but forest.

There are animals in forests.
Common knowledge that everyone knows.
But I guess I overestimated her by assuming she knew it too.

Suddenly, a wolf appeared in front of the car.
Already distracted, she swerved out of the lane.
The car fell into a ditch beside the road.

.

I was dazed.
But the first thing I did was laugh.
I found it hilarious.
It was karma.

.

I got out of the car.
I checked how she was.

.

A shard, about 40 centimeters long, was piercing her neck.

.

She begged me.
“Help me! Help me! It hurts!”

I stood still.

“FUCKING DO SOMETHING.”

I stared at her.
I found her pathetic.

.

I didn’t touch her.
I didn’t do anything, honestly.
I let her die.
And then I left.

.

But you know this story, don’t you?

.

Afterward,
I walked for meters along the road.
Kilometers.
But I found no one willing to help me.
